Elena Chiti is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oslo and teaches at the Scuola Superiore Mediatori Linguistici in Vicenza. With PhD from the IREMAM/Aix-Marseille Université, where she wrote a thesis on literary environments and multilingual productions in Alexandria when under British rule, she is an expert on Middle Eastern cultural history, and a literary translator working from Arabic to French and Italian . She has translated novels by Nagib Mahfouz and Samar Yazbek and poetry by Dunya Mikhail and Faraj Bayrakdara. Her translation of the collection "La guerra lavora duro" by Dunya Mikhail in 2012 was highlighted by the Achille Marazza Poetry Translation Prize. She is currently carrying out research on literary and crime fiction in contemporary Egypt.
