Loriano Macchiavelli was born in Vergato (Bologna) in 1934. He worked as a theatre actor, playwright, and organizer. He has devoted himself to detective stories since 1974 and this literary genre consecrated him as one of the most read Italian authors, in particular for the main character of his famous series: Bologna police Sergeant Sarti Antonio. His books have been translated into several languages. Sergeant Sarti was also adapted for comic strips in "Orient Express". Together with other nine detective-story writers, Macchiavelli created Gruppo 13.
