Abdulah Sidran
Abdulah Sidran was born near Sarajevo (Hadzici) in 1944. A poet, prose writer, playwright, cinema scriptwriter and central figure in contemporary literature.
Sidran, as a scriptwriter, and Kusturica, as a director, played a decisive role in Slavic films: Ti ricordi di Dolly Bell? (1981, Leone d’oro in Venezia), Papà è in viaggio d’affari (1985, Palma d’oro in Cannes). Il cerchio perfetto (1977) by Ademir Kenovic, with Sidran as scriptwriter, is a testimony of the besiege of Sarajevo. Sidran is also a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Bosnia-Erzegovina. He is a prestigious chess player. He lives and works in Sarajevo.
His main books are: Sahbasa (1970), L’osso e la polpa/Kosti i mesa (1976), La raccolta di Sarajevo/Sarajevske zbirke (1979), La bara di Sarajevo/Sarajevskog tabuta (1993), Opere scelte/Sabrana djela (2004).
