Pepetela
Pepetela is the pen name for Artur Carlos Pestana dos Santos. A white man born in Angola, he has always kept writing together with his political commitment, supporting the war for the liberation of Angola which was fought during the late 60s and early 70s. He was then elected Minister of Culture and is now professor of Sociology at the University of Luanda. He can be defined as a "guerrilla-writer”: through his works he tried to plant the seeds of a national awareness in the people of his country, overcoming their fragile tribal system. In his most recent writings he reflects the revolutionary generation's attitude towards the current situation in Angola. |
