Hebe de Bonafini
Hebe de Bonafini was born in Argentina in 1928. She was one of the founders of the Association of Madres de Plaza de Mayo, the organization that congregates the Argentine mothers who, every Thursday for 25 years, have demonstrated in the Plaza to denounce the disappearance of their sons during the military dictatorship. Hebe has been Chairperson of the association since 1979. She has travelled all over the world giving interviews and taking part in conferences and demonstrations at several universities. She has always supported any initiative in favour of human rights and of exposure of their breech. She has been welcomed by Heads of State, governments and institutions of many Countries, and as representative of the Association, she has received much recognition at international level for the high civil profile of the Mothers’ activities, including the 1999 UNESCO Prize for Peace Education.
