Peter Florence is the founder and the director of the Hay Festival, the most famous British literary festival. He studied at Paris University and obtained a Master's Degree in Medieval and Modern Literature. He has also been awarded two honorary degrees from The Open University and the University of Glamorgan for his commitment to cultural dissemination. He is a member of the Hereford College of Arts and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Over the years he has adapted the Hay Festival model to create a network of cultural events in cities all over the world including Segovia, Cartagena, Medellín, Arequipa e Querétaro.
