An Italian journalist, is editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine L'Espresso. As a special correspondent for Il Giorno he followed the Balkan wars of the nineties, and this work in the field of journalism led to the books Jugoslavia, nuovo Medioevo (1992, written with Marco Ventura) and L'Onu è morta a Sarajevo (1995, with Zlatko Dizdarević). In 2016 he published, first in France with Editions du Seuil and later in Italy with Sellerio, L'ultimo rigore di Faruk, «the story of the disintegration of Yugoslavia, read in parallel with the disintegration of its national football team» (Gian Antonio Stella in the Corriere della Sera).
