A Neoclassical Theatre, one of the most significant of the time, it was built between 1818 and 1822 on a plan by Luigi Canonica and used specifically for operas. The theatre is one of the most interesting public buildings built during the Austrian Restoration period in Mantova. On the outside, the large facade is enriched with a six-columned portico (pronaos) and a triangular pediment. The inside shows a three-ordered boxes and two galleries. The Sociale Theatre still offers an opera season of its own and a variety of theatrical reviews.
