Colson Whitehead was born in New York in 1969 and lives in Brooklyn. He graduated at Harvard. He worked as a journalist for some magazines, such as "Newsday" and "The Village Voice". His first novel, "The Intuitionist", was awarded the QPB New Voices Award and was a finalist for the Pen Award Ernest Hemingway. His second novel, "John Henry Days", was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction and was elected as the best book of the year 2001 by "Los Angeles Times", "Washington Post" and "San Francisco Chronicle".
