A Day with Pip and Posy

An inseparable friendship told through writing and drawing

Who are Pip and Posy? Two great friends: a rabbit and a mouse, protagonists of the stories written and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Today the author, with the help of Vera Salton, gave the young audience in the Casa del Mantegna an hour filled with fun and creativity.

Axel presented his characters to the children, first drawing and then flipping through some books, while Vera voiced them with tremendous emotion and energy.

The author read three stories during the event, each speaking about the most diverse situations without giving up on the element of fun and the dear friendship between Pip and Posy! A day spent playing, a burst balloon and soap bubbles at the park, a monster costume and a picnic after a rainy day are just some of the ways the two friends pass their days.

Between one story and another, the author inserted vignettes and drawings created on the spot and according to the children's requests, managing to reconcile even the most disparate elements in a completely original work. If words came up in the hall like bathtub, flowers, wolf, monster, bicycles and sun, a wolf riding a bike on a sunny day appeared like magic on the white sheet, while Pip and Posy took a bath in the company of the monstrous Gruffalo.

This alternation between reading and drawing stimulated the children's attention, keeping them gripped, and even helping them find themselves in the drawings that Scheffler created especially for them.
