An extraordinary interpreter of Sicilian Patisserie, Corrado Assenza is the owner of Caffè Sicilia, a stone's throw away from Noto's Cathedral (Southern Sicily), along the main street, a place which opened over a century ago where nougat, jams and liquors were produced. After graduating in Agriculture at Bologna University, in 1985 he decided to leave the academic world and devoted himself together with his brother Carlo and his fiancée Nives Mazza (now his wife) to the management of his auntie Nella's famous Caffè, celebrated since the end of the XIX century. This is how his great carrier started, a carrier which made him famous the world over for his original granitas, ice-creams, for the freshness and refinement of the ingredients he uses which won him, among other prizes, the 2006 Confectioner of the Year Prize in Identità Golose, the Italian Meeting of Author Cuisine. Assenza has spelled out his philosophy as follows: «People pay more and more attention to what they eat, we have gone back to our hunting nature, but this time we are hunting for emotions and I want people to experience the uniqueness of this Baroque landscape and food is my language.»
