Born in Bologna in 1969, «after learning in a university entomology lesson that cavernicolous beetles are crypometabolic, he decided that studying insects would be his path». An entomologist, social entrepreneur and author of illustrated texts on the worlds of insects and plants ("Il giardino delle farfalle", "La meravigliosa vita delle api"), he graduated in agriculture under the guidance of Giorgio Celli and Stefano Maini and earned a Ph.D. in agricultural entomology with a thesis on the prospects of biological control (2004), Since then, he has worked at the Entomology Department of Agro-Environmental Sciences and Technologies at the University of Bologna and he combines academic research with educational urban ecology projects, such as 'Eugea', founded in 2005 with the aim of reconstructing biodiversity in urban areas starting from the active involvement of the public. 'Eugea' proceeded to produce kits for urban gardens and arranged workshops, courses, culture and nature schemes with schools, educational centres, parks and public administrative bodies, even becoming established in Switzerland, Austria and Germany, consolidating its status as one of Italy's most fascinating start-ups.
