After graduating in Architecture at the University of Venice, Manuele Fior (Cesena, 1975) moved to Berlin, where he lived and worked as a cartoonist, illustrator and architect until 2005, when he decided to move to Oslo and then later to Paris. His experience in the field of architecture aided the development of his unmistakable style: «When I came back to comics,» he said in an interview, «I was working full time as an architect and I wasn't really aware of what was around. So I used the materials that I had to hand in the office.» In 1994, he won first prize at the "Bienal do Juvenes Criadores do Mediteraneo" in Lisbon, in the comic section. He has worked with the German publisher Avant-Verlag since 2001, producing short stories in comic form written by his brother Daniele, which have been featured in Black, Bile Noire, Stripburger, Forresten and Osmosa. 2004 saw the release of his first graphic novel, Les Gens le Dimanche. Since then he has worked as an illustrator for The New Yorker, Le Monde, Vanity Fair, la Repubblica, Il Sole 24 Ore, Internazionale, Il Manifesto, Rolling Stone Magazine, Les Inrocks, Edizioni EL, Fabbri, Nathan, Bayard, and the Far East Festival. In 2010, he entered into the elite of European comics with the graphic novel Cinquemila chilometri al secondo (Fauve d'Or – Miglior Album al Festival Internazionale di Angoulême 2011 and Premio Gran Guinigi – Autore Unico a Lucca 2010), followed by L'intervista (2013), Le variazioni d'Orsay (2015), I giorni della merla (2016), Celestia (2021) and Hypericon (2022).
