A writer and essayist (Reggio Emilia, 1954), Marco Beloit graduated from Bologna in 1978, under the guidance of Umberto Eco, and since the 1980s, he has been a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines such as La Stampa, L'Espresso e Alias - il manifesto. Together with Stefano Chiodi, he is founder and director of the editorial project Doppiozero, which was created online and soon became a reference point in the Italian cultural debate; he is also curator, with Elio Grazioli, of the cultural magazine Riga. His research interests are geared towards Italian literature, semiotics and visual arts. In 1997, he edited the complete edition of the works of Primo Levi and the book Conversazioni e interviste 1963-1987 for Einaudi. In 2006-2007 he published the book La prova and released, together with the director Davide Ferrario, the documentary La strada di Levi, in which Belpoliti, 60 years later, undertakes the journey made by the Piedmontese writer through post-war Europe. Amongst his latest works: Primo Levi di fronte e di profilo (Guanda, 2015 e 2019), La strategia della farfalla (Guanda, 2016), Pianura (Einaudi, 2021), Pasolini e il suo doppio (Guanda, 2022).
