Laura Cangemi was born in Milan, where she attended the Beccaria High Scholl, after which she graduated in Modern Literature in 1986 at Statale University in Milan. Also in 1989 she moved to Mantua. Ever since she has been a translator, mainly for children's literature, from Swedish, Norwegian and English. The authors shediscovered and eventually translated include Ulf Stark, Maria Gripe, Annika Thor, Mkael Engstrom, Henning Mankell, Per Olov Enquist and Johanna Tydell. She works with the most important Italian publishing houses and has translated over 150 books. In 1999 she was awarded the St. Jerome Prize for translation (children's literature section). Laura Cangemi is also a conference interpreter after having done a course at the European Parliament. One of Festivaletteratura's volunteers since its first edition, she coordinates the interpreting and translating services at the Festival.
