Founded in 1997 on the initiative of Carlo Boccadoro, Filippo Del Corno, and Angelo Miotto, the Sentieri Selvaggi ensemble set out with the goal of bringing contemporary music closer to the general public, selling out its concerts ever since its debut in Milan. Sentieri Selvaggi's performances are uniquely characterized by informal spoken introductions to each piece. Over the years, the ensemble has established close collaborations with the most important composers on the international scene (including David Lang, Louis Andriessen, James MacMillan, Philip Glass, Gavin Bryars, Michael Nyman, Julia Wolfe, and Fabio Vacchi), who have either written scores specifically for the musicians or entrusted them with the Italian premieres of their works. Alongside these partnerships, the group actively promotes and champions music by a new generation of Italian composers, such as Carlo Boccadoro, Francesco Antonioni, Silvia Colasanti, Giovanni Mancuso, Mauro Montalbetti, and Giovanni Verrando.
