An Italian semiotician and university professor, she has authored essays and articles on interpretive semiotics, fairy tales, narratology, political discourse, Holocaust denial, the rhetoric of racism and antisemitism, and memory. Formerly the editor of the landmark study La difesa della razza. Antologia 1938-1943 (Bompiani, 2006), her monographs include: Leggere la fiaba (Bompiani, 1993); L'irritante questione delle camere a gas. Logica del negazionismo (Bompiani, 1998 and 2014); Semiotica e interpretazione (with Roberto Pellerey, Bompiani, 2004); Abusi di memoria. Negare, sacralizzare, banalizzare la Shoah (Bruno Mondadori, 2012); I guardiani della memoria (Bompiani, 2020); and Antisemita. Una parola in ostaggio (Bompiani, 2025). She graduated in Semiotics from DAMS at the University of Bologna in 1992 (with Umberto Eco as her thesis advisor) and earned her PhD from the University of Bologna in 1997. Since 2024, she has been a Full Professor of Semiotics in the Department of Letters, Philosophy, and Communication at the University of Bergamo.
