Tullio Avoledo, born in 1957, «for three quarters from Friuli and German for the rest», works in the legal department of a bank in Pordenone. In 2003 he debuted with L'elenco telefonico di Atlantide, winner of the Forte Village Montblanc Prize as emerging writer of the year. After Mare di Bering, Lo stato dell'unione, Tre sono le cose misteriose and Breve storia di lunghi tradimenti, in 2008 he published La ragazza di Vajont and L'ultimo giorno felice, dealing with hot issues such as the eco-mafia. In 2009 he released L'anno dei dodici inverni, an original story of love and time travel, which was a finalist for the Stresa Prize and winner of the Premio dei Lettori di Lucca in 2010. Un buon posto per morire (2011), written together with Davide "Boosta" Dileo, was followed by the post-apocalyptic sci-fi novels Le radici del cielo (2012) and La crociata dei bambini (2014), both linked to Dmitry Glukhovsky's Metro 2033 Universe project. After the dystopian novel Furland® (2018), he launched a sci-fi noir tetralogy with Nero come la notte (2020, winner of the Scerbanenco Prize) and Come navi nella notte (2021), later concluded by Non è mai notte quando muori (2022) and I cani della pioggia (2024). His most recent works include a legal thriller series published by Neri Pozza featuring lawyer Vittorio Contrada, which began with Come si uccide un gentiluomo (2025) and continued with Ultimo valzer di una ragazza perbene (2026).
